Why Women Need More Muscle After 30 (Not Less Weight)
The Shift That Changes Everything
When I used to think about building muscle…
I pictured one thing.
Huge, jacked guys with rippling muscles.
And to be honest?
That wasn’t appealing to me at all.
You don’t need to get smaller.
You need to get stronger.
The Fear Most Women Don’t Say Out Loud
I didn’t want to get bigger.
I wanted to get smaller.
Lighter.
Leaner.
Less.
And the idea of lifting heavy weights?
That felt intimidating.
I was much more comfortable with the small, colorful 5-pound dumbbells that seem to be marketed to women everywhere.
What Started to Change
As I got older, I found myself around people who understood strength differently.
They weren’t chasing smaller.
They were building stronger.
And something about that clicked for me.
Because what I had been doing… wasn’t really working.
I wasn’t seeing the results I wanted.
So I asked myself a simple question:
Why not try something different?
What Actually Happens When You Start Lifting
Here’s what I’ve experienced over the last few months:
- More definition in my legs, arms, and core
- More strength in everyday life
- More confidence in what my body can do
I can lift our 5-gallon water jug without thinking twice.
I can help clients move furniture when needed.
And maybe my favorite?
I can still carry my kids.
(My 4- and 6-year-old… who are not light.)
That kind of strength?
That matters more than any number on the scale.

You don’t accidentally become bulky.
That’s not how this works.

The Real Problem
Most women spend their lives trying to be smaller.
And in doing that…
They miss out on what their body is actually capable of.
Strength gives you something different.
It gives you:
- A challenge
- A sense of progress
- A feeling of pride
Not just in how you look…
But in what you can do.
The Part That Matters Most
This isn’t just about you.
It’s about what your kids see.
I don’t want my daughters growing up thinking their goal is to be smaller.
I want them to feel strong.
Capable.
Confident.
I want them to see that taking care of your body isn’t about shrinking it…
It’s about building it.
Train Like a Grown-Up
Grown-ups don’t train to be smaller.
